The Final Entry of this year (Maybe)

Hand in Is drawing nearer so I guess I can throw in a Final entry before I had In EVERYTHING.

Monday the 14th/05/2012

Uh Cleaned up some Scenes for my three minute film and sent an Email to my Tutors to see If I could Render out all the scenes.

Tuesday the 15th/05/2012

Tutors got My email so I started to render out all the Files I got Jud to edit the Film. I Had a Nagging sensation in the Back of My head saying that my 3 minute film was going to be Under 3 Minutes turns out it was over 3 minutes (20 seconds over if your wondering) so thats alright.

Wednesday the 16/05/2012 and Thursday the 17th/05/2012

Tutors wanted me to put up some Sound for my Three minute Film so I got on with that and Finished that (sort of) on the Next day (Thursday) however Jud made me do some Changes which I did do Its just now I have to let my Tutors know that I did them if that Makes sense.

Friday the 18th/05/2012

It was First and Second year Hand in today so In the morning I did a Illustration reel and made a Quick exit at half past 12. Can't remember what I did for the Rest of that day. Oh wait yeah I went to a House party because some Girl I knew was going back home to London. 

Saturday the 19th/05/2012

Edited my C.V. I think :/ Might have to check with dad. I also watched a Film with my Brother It was "The Raid" the so called biggest action Movie of the year or ever though It wasn't as Big as Avengers Assemble!

Sunday the 20th/05/2012

Like I mentioned previously Im going to edit my C.V. so Im Gonna do that at some point today. Also I coloured in this Tom-Man Comic Yayy Tom-man.

It was a bank holiday today so I stayed home still animated like.

Tuesday the 8th/05/2012   

Worked on my last Shot AHHHH :D this is So exciting also the only person in animation (asides from the Tutors and Roxy Crow) who gives a Crap about my existence (Bit Harsh) Kaidei appeared briefly and gave me this....

I also learned that Maurice Sendak the Illustrator (and writer) of "Where the Wild things are" died today (he was 83) Its a Shame hes gone I really like Where the wild things are It made me the Monstrous man child I am today.  I found this rather fun Interview with him on Youtube.

Carried on shot 43 (scene 9 final scene) and thats all really :/ what a Dull life I lead ooh no wait I went to the pub at lunch time as well with my Mentor Elizabeth and some other people It was fun :3

Did pretty much the same thing on these days. Some shot although ive done every shot for my Three minute Film there are still some that needed fixing so I worked on them a bit more. I also got round to finishing this Pic of a Troll doll.

Action Plan

Because I leave University forever soon the tutors are Fascinated in what I intend to do when I leave University. As I recall in a previous entry I said that want to become a Illustrator or Free lance artist you can read It here

(although Technically you are already "free lance" when you Leave university you just need a separate bank account for the money you get from work so you can get paid). Back to the Action plan Im going to start with the first Action plan I made in March the 17th so Ill start with the where I am at the Present, what I Like and dislike about the Situation Im in now and then Talk about the Future

The only thing I dont like about this entry Is my Honesty to saying how I dont like University life anyone. Its true I dont enjoy going to University any more I don't really get on with anyone and I don't enjoy animation as much as I used to either also we have been having lovely weather lately and im missing out on It because I have to work inside! Now on to the Future or the "Future I want".

In The Future part I talk abit about my Original character and also that I want to get Into freelance :/ Hmm I do recall doing an Action Plan where I just say I want to get in to The Illustration Industry but oh well. A few things I have done since I wrote this Action Plan are

• I did a entry about how much an Illustrator gets and How I can earn a living out of It there Is a link to go to that Entry. 
• Ive Created a C.V. which I sent of to futures and I did get a reply from the Futures department. They wanted me to make changes and meet Liz Bradley (Disability Careers Adviser) to go through my C.V. the reason I meeting her Is because I mentioned my Aspergers
• I attended the Meeting with Anne Newman over the Easter holidays and she gave me loads of useful bits of Information Bits of Information which I have forgotten about since that meeting Whoops :/

I couldn't Go to the Interview Skills meeting because the David Buntings guest lecture got In the way. Ok I have made some Change to the Action plan which I did earlier in April or may I can't remember which.

 

Ive finished all the shots for my three minute film I just need to put It altogether. I am intent on meeting Anne Newman again but I might leave that holidays when I go job hunting and get help from the Futures department. I might make a start on watermarking my comics after Ive handed in all my work. Thats all I can think of I don't really know how to wrap this entry up.

Worked on a Lip Syncing shot. But I was too excited to see the BIGGEST MOVIE EVER!!! which was tomorrow.


Friday the 4th/05/2012
Eeeee only 4 more shots to go (aswell as some that need Fixing :/) asides from that I went to see the BIGGEST MOVIE EVER! which of course was the Marvel Avengers Assemble! for those of you who have had there head in a bucket full of sand for the past months heres the Trailer.

Its got every super hero ever in this Film Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk now I think Hulk right steals the Show! there's also Black widow played by pretty Scarlett Johansson, and Nick fury and Hawkeye Its a Great Movie and I recommend you watch It.

Rather Slow day today :/ I worked on my Action Plan (again) I really need to do a Blog on It I also got a some what positive Email from Futures about My C.V. I say some what Positive mainly because they wanted me to make changes and meet Liz Bradley (Disability Careers Adviser) to go through my C.V. the reason I meeting her Is because I mentioned my Aspergers (oh yeah of got Aspergers Its nothing new to me Ive always had It! I returned to an empty university and started Scene 7 and handed in my 500 word essay that I did over the Easter break. That feels like a weight has been lifted from my mind.

Carried on with Scene 7 nearly finished It :D I also got my first drawing request in quite along while It was to draw Doug Jennings character "Tigrikorn" here is what I came up with.

Doug liked it but would of probably liked it more if I coloured It in and then he ended up colouring this pic Instead (Lookie hear!) I mean I would colour It in Might do It Friday the 27 :/.

Took a break from my 3 minute Film and went for a MEGA WALK! With my dad the reason it was Mega is because It took us an hour to get to where we were going and another hour to get back thats like 2 HOURS!!! I also worked on my C.V. and watched the "Girl who kicked the Hornets nest" Im might as well show you the Trailer :I

Working in the Easter Holidays!?

It was my brothers birthday today he Turns 19 :O already where's the Time gone so yeah I didn't really do Much might have done a Blog entry. But In the real world I went to Lidl because my Bro needed to get some stuff for his party on Tuesday, I also made my Brother this Card which he liked.

I went into uni and It was a Bit quiet So I hid in the Library and cracked on with Scene 6. I later met fellow student Rahil and he showed me a Trailer for a rather funny film called "Ted" heres the trailer be warned Its does have a bit of naughty language.

Also as J was having a party with his Student body friends me an dad went down to the Pub where I had This.......Because thats how I roll!

Find out how to earn a living as a Graphic artist/Illustrator

One of the questions that I put on my action plan (which I still haven't done a Blog about >_<) is "Find out how to earn a living as a Graphic artist/Illustrator" and this is what this entry is going to about so lets get started.


Well according to the Directgov national careers service website.........

"As an Illustrator you would produce drawings, paintings or diagrams that help make products more attractive or easier to understand. This could include books, book jackets, greetings cards, advertisements, packaging and detailed technical diagrams." 


Im not sure about the Technical diagrams part, or packaging and detailed technical diagrams :/ but I do like the sound of The Book cover parts and Greetings cards I always make cards for my family so I think that part of Illustrating will suit me fine.    

Heres what the work would typically include:

• discussing requirements (the brief) with authors, editors or designers -That would be like Talking to my tutors I guess) 
• negotiating prices and time scales - Im not really good with money Im an artist not a Business man!
• deciding on appropriate styles for the illustrations - so no nob drawings I never draw nob's anyway so you know
• creating illustrations using hand drawing, painting or computer design packages - Im good at Hand drawing alright at Computer design but Painting :/ not so much Im not that great at Painting to be honest.   
• consulting with the client and modifying designs if necessary -Im abit awkward with Humans but I think If I was to do this It may boost my Confidence.
• making sure the work is completed within set budgets and deadlines - This might prove to be abit of a Challenge as meeting deadlines has never been my strong point and so is Budgeting but with the Budgeting I could probably get my dad to help that    

With those bit criticised lets read on to see what else the Directgov has to say about Illustration.   


As you would usually be freelance, you would also need to market your work and complete the administrative tasks associated with running a business.

You may be able to specialise in one type of illustration, such as children’s books or medical illustration.

Creative Choices describes the work of an illustrator, including an archaeological illustrator, a technical illustrator and a children's book illustrator.


The statement mentions that you would usually be freelance which is good and Im going to see Anne Newman of the Futures department next Tuesday about the Freelancing part to get some Ideas some "Tricks and Tips" if you will! And Its so obvious that I will work as a Children's Illustrator I mean could you Imagine me as a Technical Illustrator!? no! well neither can I!


I haven't really found out How much I earn as an Illustrator I think It all comes down to what job your doing I did some Christmas cards for my aunt back in Christmas 2009 and I think I got £15 out of It which is not bad but I Imagine If I was to send the Cards I do (here are some examples) To say Halmarks or

Clifton Cards the Id Imagine Id get alot more than just £15 but then again It all comes down how much effort It put Into my work. I sure hope this has cleared up how I can earn a Living from being a Illustrator now what I need to do Is find some Publishers for my Tom-Man comics.......

We had good weather this week and I didn't really get to enjoy It until uh Wednesday I think It was. Any ways today I got started with Scene 6 :D

Carried on with Scene 6 I was a bit confused today because Talib Kadhim founder (I guess) of Back2Front animation was coming in to give a guest lecture. I think later on I wrote up about him aswell (Its part of Course alright!)

Wednesday the 28th/03/2012

Worked abit more on Scene 6 yo :) I also met up with my mentor Elizabeth don't know why that bits relevant but she did give me some stuff to help me with writing up a CV. I later went on to Avenam Park where my Bro "jack"and his Xenophobe friend "Ben" appeared so hung out with them for awhile and then got back to Uni and Got on with some work. I also learnt that a Youtube animator Edd Gould died :( I was a bit sad from finding out about this and It reminded me once again how Precious life Is Its a real Shame as the Eddsworld world cartoon was pretty funny.

I was supposed to email Steve Wilkin today the Head of Illustration at UCLan but his name didn't appear on the Contact list :/ Im starting to doubt that this man exists. Anyway I had a bit of a Cold today so I didn't really feel Like doing work However I did colour in This.

      

Saturday the 31st/03/2012

Uh had boring day today nah not really :D Uh I made some Business cards (look Below)

And as Vibrant and colourful as they are everybody knows that white and Yellow should go together so what I did was I got a Sky blue background and faded out the characters and used a Tahoma text with some white outlines In fact here It Is.

I also bought some second hand tat today aswell because Thats how I roll!

Sunday the 1st/04/2012 (APRIL FOOLS YO)

Im going to be boring today and research in to how much an Illustrator gets Money wise (Ill do a blog update Tomorrow maybe!) and I need to find some Publishers and Email some of my stuff to them :)

Well From what I remember I went into University to work on Scene 5 I also went on search for a Missing Key which my brother sent to wrong department *Facepalm* nice one bro!

Carried on with Scene 5. later that afternoon I met visual effects animator David Buntings who was quite young looking compared to all the other guest animators we've had visit us in University I don't know where Im going with this actually


Wednesday the 21st/03/12
Carried on animating and then I met who did I meet oh yeah animator and Novelist Candy Guard she didn't really talk about her books she doing but she talked more about the animations she did back in the 90s (sigh I miss the 90s)  I should have really asked her about the books she did >:(


Thursday the 22nd/03/12
Thursday rolled Its sorry ass over the Hill and by now Ive had enough of this week but the good news was I got Scene 5 done so now I can work on Scene 6 and if I work on a that this week and get It done next week Ill be past the half way point.


Friday the 23rd/03/12
Met animation Tony Collingwood a Man who worked on childhood cartoons such as Oscars Orchestra, The Denis the Menace cartoon what else did he do Oh yeah Yoko Jakamoko Toto and the Secret show. he Is currently working on a show for Cbeebies called Ruff ruff tweet and Dave which he showed the animation peeps and other students. I liked this if It was on In the morning Id probably watch It I love Dave the Panda aswell still last time I checked Pandas don't eat bananas or do they :/ Oh sh*t I also met up with some friends and we went to the Cinema to see the rather Funny 21 jump street.

Just worked on some Essays today then I had a quiet night in. I also coloured in a Tom-Man comic 

speaking of which Ive really got to make a start on sending my comics off to publishers but Ive got to watermark them first.

Remember at the start of this entry when I told you I was Ill yay well I was real Ill today I threw up at one point no one wants that :( I managed to find comfort though by watching the "Fifth element" heres the Trailer.

Friday the 16/03/12

Still Ill :( but I stopped throwing up so thats good I started on a couple of Essays but I had a binding feeling in my stomach thats no good :( so I took a bit more Time off and watched Man v. Food on Dave the channel. I also coloured In this Pic.

  

Saturday the 17/03/12

I felt a bit better today so worked on some essays and then I went into University in the afternoon I thought I was having a lecture with Tim Searle of Baby cow animation but turned out that wasn't happening until 4 but no one in the third year knew about this except for Kadei. God I was so angry after that how angry you want to know how Angry I WAS ANGRY WITH EVERYONE KIND OF LIKE CHARLIE BROOKER IN THIS VIDEO!!!!! ARRGGGGHHHH!!!

I eventually calmed down after my parents found a Sketchpad in the garage I did as a Kid full of all these characters I drew when I was a Kid and I didn't even know existed :/ Still It was awesome I now have a great back catalogue of Characters that Im Intent on reusing :D

Felling better today Ive got some notes to scan to for some woman whos doing a masters degree in animation :/ f*ck my life any Its a really nice day as well I might go stand in the Garden and look at that pond me and dad made.

Didn't really do much today as I was felling a bit Ill It might be Man flu although I hardly got any sleep the previous night. I also thought I was going to a meeting today with the futures but It turns out thats not today Its on the 20th of March.

We were supposed to meet animator David Bunting today but like me he was a bit under the weather so he didn't turn up that day :( so Instead I carried on with animating scene 4 and worked upon scene 5 the next day.

Carried on with Scene 4 and yeah worked on scene 5 later on that day :/ I also met up with my Games design mates:D who I haven't seen In a week or so 


Friday the 9th of March 2012
Friday was alright :) I worked upon This comic which I actually got round to finishing on the Saturday.

Asides from that I went to see another Film this week with my friends. And It was Disneys answer to Avatar (thats what I call It any way) JOHN CARTER! 

   

Its a very brutal film Quite a bit of violence for a disney film. It also has a Dog monster called "Woola" which me and my friend Dan liked :D on the way out from the Cinema however I saw this beautiful site.

Saturday the 10th of March 2012 (what!? already)

The Fateful fable of 13 features 13 unfortunate looking ceramic characters Including Sir Spiffington, Lionel Vinyl, Lobster boy and some Carrot magician these characters were created by Matthew Roby. I took some photos of them but then I got told of by one of the museum Staff by doing so whoops :/

Didn't really do any work this weekend Naughty boy >:( the reason to that is because I was In Birmingham with my Dad and we were moving stuff about at his parents house there were having the electrician in see and my Granddad buys alot of stuff that he doesn't need :/ some of It is still in Its packaging. Here is a picture of me with some puppets who look just look like my Grandparents.

Sunday the 4th of March 2012

Because my grandparents live near the Airport they have triple glazed windows so that way we couldn't hear the planes taking off at night and me and my dad were Roasting in a small Bed room and I woke up dazed and confused in Birmingham. We were going to go home at Lunch but Nan was going to give us  a Sunday roast which was good but It took her 2 years to make It :/ (thats me being sarcastic). So we returned home at 4.50 this week Im going to get scene 4 done and get rid of this blasted cold!

For those of you who remembered last weeks Blog entry http://tomsbrainsblog.blogspot.com/ I was going to colour In a picture of Tom-Man and Jerry and I did :D quite alot of people liked It....
